Subject: My Fathers History
My father passed away
several years ago. He did not like to talk about
the war. I am searching the net to find out
information for myself and his grandchildren. I
want them to understand what a hero he was. I
know he was wounded in battle. All I know right
now is that he was a gunner in a B17 He flew in
the Scheinfurt Raid called black Thursday which
took place on October 14, 1943. His name was
Glenn Leeroy Jensen He was a Tech Sargent. Any
idea of where to go next?
Richard, Sorry, we were
unable to find your father in
the 379th Bombardment Group
records. If you have records
that indicate where your
father was stationed or what
Bombardment Group he was in
during the war that would
help. (letters, orders,
pictures etc.) If not, you
will need to try to get a
copy of his military records.
(See link below)
We
suggest that you try to get a
copy his personnel file from
the National Personnel
Records Center, Military
Records Branch, 9700 Page
Ave., St. Louis Mo.

His
personnel records will
indicate medals received,

Many personnel files were
destroyed in the St. Louis
Record Center fire in 1973.
The Center uses alternate
sources to reconstruct basic
service information of
records that were lost in the
fire. (See URL for form 180
below) They have
reconstructed the records and
may tell you they don’t have
them, but they do have
something be persistent.
Please let us know of your
progress.

Dear 379th BG Assn, I have a question I want
to see if you can answer. There were 2 "Red
Dragons" in the 379th, 527 Squadron. Which
arrived first at the 379th, 42-97270 or
43-37951? The information I got from Col. Brown
was 42-97270 arrived more than 2 months before
43-37951 and I'm being told from another person
that 43-37951 arrived first because 42-97270 was
transferred from the 398th BG. My dad was the
crew chief of 42-97270 and my mother was told
that dad did the nose art work on this plane and
it was suggested that dad copied the nose art
from 43-37951. Is there any way you can confirm
this for the both of us. Tom Pullen, 2nd
generation 379th BG member.
Tom, According to
Lt.Col. Joseph Brown’s 379th Aircraft Assigned
Research indicates “Red Dragon” 42-97270 was
originally assigned to the 398th on 04/24/44.
The aircraft transferred to the 379th on
05/06/44 and eventually ended up in storage at
Kingman, AZ 12/15/45. See the Anthology Volume

I having been loking for records
about my grandfather's service in WWII for
several years now. Unfortunately, he passed away
several years ago before I was able to get much
information about his service. Also, his records
were destroyed in the records fire. He is my
hero and I would love to be able to know more
about this period of his life.
However, I
recently stumbled acrosss some old documents of
his that pertain to his service. One such
document is entitled "379th air service
squadron, Team "B", 74th service group. It is a
battle honors citation form for the 1st Bomb
Div's attacks on 11 January, 1944. My
grandfather's name appears on this document. Any
information you can provide about him, his
missions, duties, squads, etc. would be greatly
appreciated. His name was Cpl. William James
Broaddus. He was from Texas. He enlisted in
1941, fought through the entire war, and was a
part of the army of occupation.Thank you for
your time and effort in helping me.
Anyone who may have info about my grandfather,
feel free to email me at broaddus@sbcglobal.net
Thankfully Brian Broaddus
Brian, Sorry, we were unable to find Cpl.
William James Broaddus in our records. At any
given time there were more than 6,000 personnel
attached to the Kimbolton Station 117.
Unfortunately there are very few records on the
supporting units that played a major role in the
success of the 379th Bombardment Group during
WWII at Kimbolton.
I suggest that you
try to get a copy his personnel file from the
National Personnel Records Center, Military
Records Branch, 9700 Page Ave., St. Louis Mo.
63132-5100
His personnel records will
indicate medals received, assignments, schools
etc. Many personnel files were destroyed in the
St. Louis Record Center fire in 1973. The Center
uses alternate sources to reconstruct basic
service information of records that were lost in
the fire. (See URL for form 180 below)
