Subject: Information on Steve Lobue, 526thbs.

I am a member of the 379th Bomb Group Association and completed my 32 missions 01/17/45 as the BG on Lt. Studer's crew.On arriving at Kimbolton o/a 08/01/44 I was told by Sgt. McNeese, TTG, on our crew that Steve Lobue, who was the best football player at my HS in Houston, TX ,was a member of the 526th when he was killed on 06/06/44(D-Day). Unfortunately, I failed to look up members of his crew who probably were still at the 526th when we arrived. If possible,I would like to know the circumstances around Steve's service with the 526th. How many missions did he fly and in what position? I know he went to A/C crew chief school at Amarillo, AFB but I was told that he was in the tail gunner's position on his last mission. Can you elaborate?
Thanks, William D. Turley.

Our records indicate Sgt Steve Lobue flew 2 missions with the 379th Bombardment Group in 526th BS, both on June 6, 1944. He was Tail Gunner on both missions. My father was a waist gunner and flight engineer on a B-17 named Snow White in 1944. I believe he flew over 30 missions, receiving shrapnel injuries and seeing friends in other bombers killed in action. There are accounts of his heroic actions recorded in the local Detroit press indicating that he gave up his oxygen mask in order to revive the pilot of the plane on a certain mission for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. I do not have a record of his missions or a complete history of his missions and would ask you for same.

We hope to attend the upcoming re-union in Dayton, OH together, and I would like a record of this before we go, so as to feel informed of his accomplishments and to respect other veterans and their family by having a fuller knowledge of what transpired in this sentinel event of our lifetimes.

Thank you,
Kurt J. Kirkpatrick

Kurt,
S/Sgt Teddy G Kirkpatrick was in the 379th Bombardment Group and flew mission with the 527 Bomb Squadron from 7/6/44 to 10/19/44. The following are the crew and on their 2nd mission to Leipzig, Germany 7/7/44 in aircraft 42-107175.

Ragsdale, Carl H, S/Sgt, Engineer/Top Turret Gunner
Kaszuba, Chester J, Sgt, Ball Turret Gunner
Kirkpatrick, Teddy G, Sgt, Waist Gunner

I am trying to get some information about my wife's cousin, Eldred J. Andruss. He was a Staff Sergeant, Serial No. 18066103, assigned to the 525th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group Heavy. He was shot down somewhere in France on 17 August 1943, and is buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery just outside St. Avold, France (between Metz and Saarbrucken). The date he was shot down coincides with the date of the first raids on Schweinfurt and Regensburg. I would like to get information on his squadron's target that day, where in France he may have been found, how many missions, etc. I believe he may have been stationed in Kimbolton, England. Did any members of his crew survive? He was from Seymore, Texas and about 30 years old at the time of his death. Thank you.

Subject: Crew and Unit

Hello,

I am looking for anyone that might have flown or new T-Sgt Wesley, L. Rabe who was from Waxahachie, TX. Although he passed away in October of 1981, his youngest daughter whom I am engaged to, is or was very close to her daddy and would like to know more about him during this time in his life. She was 24 at the time. She mentioned that he did not talk about this time at all.

She has a scrap book of his with pictures and news articles from their local paper. There is a group picture of him and their crew. At the bottom of the picture there is writing (GM-116-A-379) (17-9-44). Being retired Army I am not familiar with Air Force unit recognitions. I know the last part is the date, the 379 is the bomber Group, but not sure what the first part is.

There are also some names on the back of the picture. 2nd. LT Arnold, S/Sgt Singelton, T/Sgt Hatch, and a S/Sgt Sipes. That's about all I can make out.

I saw on your web site, that there is a reunion scheduled in September. It might be interesting to attend, especially is there were anyone left alive from his crew for her to talk to.

Please let me know if you can not help, where I might turn to next.
Truly appreciate any help in this matter.

Best Regards,
Chris Bonilla

Chris,

Stift, John J, Sgt, Ball Turret Gunner
Demetreu, James (NMI), Sgt, Right Waist Gunner
Rabe, Wesley L, Sgt , Left Waist Gunner

We do not show any of the above crew on the current membership roster.

The following are the crew and their positions on T/Sgt Wesley Rabe's 6th mission to Munich, Germany on 7/13/44 in aircraft 42-107213 "Rubble Rouser":
