Hello,
I
was told that my Uncle Dougals Earl Whitefield,
from Valdosta GA served in the 379th before
being transferred in the spring of '45 to the
447th. Do you perhaps have any information on
his Squdron or plane. I'm a scale modeler and
wanted to depict a B-17 from his Squadron.
Thanks, Kit Redmond
Kit, Flight
Officer (F/O) Douglas E. Whitefield, Navigator,
was in the 379th Bombardment group and flew 4
missions with the 524th Bomb Squadron from
4/15/45 to 4/25/45.
F/O Whitefield flew
on 4 different aircraft. All the aircraft flown
by F/O Whitefield and crew were metallic or
silver. The 379th Bomb group markings are being
sent in separate email. The number 1 at the top
of the triangle signifies that the aircraft was
in the 524BS (1-524;2-525;3-526;4-527) the
aircraft serial number is below the black
triangle. Miss Liberty 43-37570, a Boeing built
aircraft was flown by F/O Whitefield and crew on
their 2nd mission to Esterwerda, Germany
4/19/45. The letter K was their call sign.
Looking down from the top of the aircraft a
plain triangle K would be shown about 1 foot
from the right wing tip. On the left wing and
both sides of the fuselage in front of the waist
would be the US insignia.
A Statue of
Liberty was painted on the nose in front of the
name and went up past the windows in height.
(See attached photo) Miss Liberty was written in
white letters on a painted black back ground on
the nose 1 foot below the windows in a straight
line toward the nose. (not clearly shown on this
photo) Miss Liberty is in the 379th Century Club
and flew 110 combat missions.

Sirs/Ma'am,
I hope this finds the correct person or people
who keep this information. I am Douglas Channer,
son of James M. Elliott. My father was in the
379thGP, 524 SQ from 26 January 1945 until 13
March 1945. He was a B-17G pilot and, from what
I have been able to recover, flew missions 305,
306, 307, 311, 314, 316, 317, 319, 320, 321,
322, 323, 325, and 327. I am really muddling
along trying to find my late-father's history
and hope this web sight will help me. I have an
old log book and some of his records and that is
about all at the moment. I, myself, am going on
my 30th year in the Air Force and fly C-5
Galaxys as an evaluator flight engineer. He was
very proud of that. I worked B-52s for years
before that. Any way, I hope this information
about his passing gets to the right people.
Please help me with any information you might
have as to how I can go about researching his
missions, etc. I am the last in the family
(other than my own immediate family) who can
keep his memory alive. I thank you for your
time. Douglas
Doug, Thank you for your inquiry. We’re sorry
to hear of your father’s passing. We will add
your father’s name to our Taps roster.
Association records for James M. Elliott show he
flew 14 missions with the 524th SQ from March
19, 1945 to April 17, 1945. Our records indicate
mission numbers 305, 306, 307, 309, 311, 314,
316, 317, 319, 321, 322, 323, 325, and 327. Crew
members on his last mission were as follows:

Henderson Jr., Clarence L, 2nd Lt, Co-Pilot
Kellam, Edgar, 2nd Lt, Navigator Manges,
Carl C, Sgt, Nose Gunner/Togglier Cohen,
Irving E, Sgt, Radio Operator/Gunner
Chojnacki, Eugene, Sgt, Engineer/Top Turret
Gunner Bentley, Perry, Sgt, Ball Turret
Gunner Erdmann, Charles J, Sgt, Waist Gunner

Hi; I hope you don't mind me troubling
you but I've been working on a database for over
ten years now collecting information on all US
WWII aircraft. I'm hoping that you may have a
list of the missions the 379BG carried out
during WWII. I have searched your web pages but
can't find an actual list. Would you be so kind
as to send me a mission list with date's and
locations. Any information would be great.
Yours Sincerely Capt. Matthew Laird Acred
Matthew, The 379th
Bombardment Group flew 330 combat missions in
WWII. All of the 379th BG missions are listed in
the “Shades of Kimbolton”. The “Shades of
Kimbolton” is a historical publication of the
groups history and is available to its members
through the PX. (see the website for PX ordering
information)
The combat missions and
dates are listed on the “Mission Reports” tab on
the homepage. Click on the “Missions Reports”.
The missions are listed in “PDF files” and can
be printed. Only members of the Association may
order these missions, but it will give you a
list of the dates and locations.

I am looking for any information on Thomas
Martin Hunter (possibly Thomas Martin Hunter Jr.
or Thomas Martin Hunter I ?). He was in the
Marine Corps in WWII. Possibly stationed in
China. He is my Grandfather and I have been
searching for information about him. I know
there is some sort of record of him, because
when he died the government bought his headstone
and a flag. I was interested in the dates he
served, rank, and medals he might have acquired.
Maybe soldiers that served with him that are
still around? ANY other information welcomed!
Thank you for any information, Kristina
Garcia
Kristina, The 379th Bomb Group was part of
the 8th Air Force during WWII. Accordingly, we
have no information on personnel serving with
the United States Marine Corps.

Europe late in the war.He was a navigator in a
B-17. I have a good picture of the front of the
plane and it has the #s 2710 on the front
landing gear doors. Any direction you can give
me that might lead to this info would be greatly
appreciated. Andrew Strauss P.S my
Grandfathers name was Fredrick Wilhelm
Andrew, We have searched our records and were
unable to find any record of Fredrick Wilhelm in
the 379th BG. It is possible that he flew with
another BG. If you could find any documents that
reflected what bomb group or location he was
stationed at that would help in your quest to
